Fun Facts

I suppose I could talk about my career highlights, achievements, taglines that I’ve penned, and the tell-all book about the ad biz that I’m writing – tentatively titled “Metcalf on Ogilvy.” But I thought it would be much more fun for you to know these interesting tidbits…

I have an identical twin brother. We look alike, sound alike, and occasionally even read each other’s minds. But curiously he’s not in advertising.

I can fly. (In a winged aircraft, that is.) I earned my private pilot’s license at age 18, and still dream of someday landing a sea plane on a lake up North.

I won the top prize at a young author’s contest when I was 10. I still have the book, the trophy, and an old bell-bottoms photo stashed away somewhere.

I was born in Southern California but spent my formative years in Southern Illinois. If I had to move back, I would take cornfields over palm trees any day.

In school, when my mind began to wander, I would doodle cartoon caricatures of my teachers. Only one busted me, and we had a good laugh about it.

I like to do voice impressions. Of friends, family members, even my Mom. Why? Because it’s fun. But usually not in front of them. Then it’s not fun.

I got my start in advertising with an agency that specialized in funeral homes. You read that right. Creepy? A little. But I took the job when my creative director said, “If you can advertise death, you can advertise anything.”
